Utilities Shut Off

Learn how to shut off your utilities (Gas, Electricity, Water) before an emergency develops. During an emergency you might be in a state of fright or panic, you might not have enough time to figure out where they are? do you need tools to turn them off? Plan now.

Before an Emergency:

Locate the Gas, Electricity (Fuse Box) and Water.

• Gas ~ outside where the gas line enters the house
• Water Main ~ usually in the basement
• Electricity (Fuse Box) ~ Inside the house
• Teach family members how to safely shut off utilities, if you need help contact your local utility.
• Attach a wrench to the gas meter so you don't have to look for one during an emergency.
• Attach a wrench to the water main as well.

After an Emergency:

DANGER ELECTRICITY - Stay out of water and don’t touch any wires until electricity is turned off.

When in doubt STOP! check with your utility.
